2024 was a tough year personally, with more happening behind the scenes than I could have anticipated. But motorsport has always been my escape, and this year proved no different. Every track, every car, every moment behind the camera reminded me why I love what I do.
Dragonsport
The year kicked off at Blyton Park with the Dragonsport Scholarship Day, a unique event where young drivers are tested not just on speed, but on fitness, media skills, and overall presence. This year brought an unusual twist: time ran out before we could decide the overall winner. So, a week later, we reconvened at Brands Hatch to let the three finalists battle it out. Watching their determination and raw talent was inspiring, and being there to capture it all reminded me of why I love sharing these stories.
Much of my year involved working with team at Britcar rounds and the C1 Championship, producing videos and capturing moments with up-and-coming drivers. One highlight was taking C1 race cars to Teesside Autodrome, giving karters their first taste of a race car, there’s nothing quite like seeing someone’s eyes light up behind a wheel for the first time.
Gracie Mitchell Racing
In the first half of the year, I followed Gracie Mitchell Racing as Gracie tested different cars at Donington and Oulton Park. Documenting her journey toward a full-time drive, through photos, video, and social content. It was both a privilege and a front-row seat to the hard work behind success.
Malcolm Wilson Rally
The Malcolm Wilson Rally was another early highlight. Rally photography is a unique challenge: it’s about being in the right place at the right time, scouting stages long before the cars arrive, and capturing the raw intensity of the sport. Hours in the Lake District woods rewarded me with some of my favourite shots of the year.
Breakell Racing
With Breakell Racing, the year shifted to GT racing. Their Mercedes GT4 debuted in Britcar before stepping up to the British GT Championship at Silverstone and Donington.
The paddock is a playground for photographers – vibrant liveries, close racing, and a sea of GT3 and GT4 machines.
Later, I travelled to Spa Francorchamps for the Spa Six Hours to shoot their prototype on track, an unforgettable weekend at one of motorsport’s most iconic circuits.
Teesside Autodrome / Karting
Teesside kept me busy, too, from covering karting events to helping set up live stream, capturing the grassroots side of motorsport is always rewarding.
Donington Park Masters Weekend
Donington Park’s Masters Weekend was a dream come true: modern-era prototypes and GTs, now classed as historic, racing on a track steeped in history.
Drift Matsuri
Of course, Drift Matsuri remains an annual highlight. The energy, the spectacle and the sheer speed. Every year it reminds me why I fell in love with motorsport photography.
Japfest
Japfest delivered similar thrills, with high-speed initiations on Silverstone’s Grand Prix Circuit that never fail to impress.
Porsche Cayman Championship
At the start of the year I shot the Porsche Media Day for Graves Motorsport followed by round one at the Snetterton circuit.
Car Shoots
I had the opportunity to shoot two cars that were going to auction during the year both on the same evening in Middlesbrough, an Aston Martin V12 Vantage and a Ferrari F430.
Misc Shots
Every frame I captured this year told a story: of determination, of speed, of dreams being chased. Motorsport isn’t just a hobby for me, it’s a way of seeing the world, and 2024 reminded me that even in challenging times, it can lift you, inspire you, and keep your heart racing.
