Throughout the season I had the chance to photograph a wide range of motorsport disciplines, from circuit racing and karting to drifting and endurance events. It was also a year where I continued developing my photography, learning new techniques and pushing myself to find different ways to capture the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every event brought its own challenges, and that variety is one of the reasons I enjoy motorsport photography so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MGJ Brands Hatch Stages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A winter rally held on the circuit and access roads around Brands Hatch, a great way to get some practice in and stay sharp during the ever-shorter off-season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And, unexpectedly, one of the highlights was seeing a Ferrari 308 GTB competing, a car you wouldn\u2019t typically associate with rallying!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TAC Rally<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This event began with a Friday evening departure to Germany, the car packed with friends willing to take on the kind of trip that involves driving through the night to the N\u00fcrburgring, shooting racing all day, and then driving home again. This time, however, things didn\u2019t go to plan, once we crossed the Channel, we learned that the N\u00fcrburgring race had been cancelled due to snowfall around the circuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a quick rethink and some rapid online research, we discovered the second round of the Belgian Rally Championship was taking place that same weekend. It required only a small detour from our route and was far shorter than our original plan. We arrived in Tielt in the early hours and grabbed whatever sleep we could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we woke, we realised that what we thought was a quiet road to park on was actually part of the rally service park!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a couple of hours exploring the cars and enjoying breakfast in the town centre, with excellent food and incredible machinery, it already felt like a fantastic alternative event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A quick look at the event programme was essential for locating the stages. With a map in hand, we found two stages we could attend later that afternoon. The spectator access was so open it bordered on reckless, with only the respect of fellow fans preventing anyone from standing in unsafe positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first run, we positioned ourselves at a 90-degree left-hander followed by a fast sweeping left-right section. The open landscape allowed for several different shooting angles, making it an excellent location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a couple of hours before the cars returned, we headed into the local village for a beer and some crisps before returning to a different part of the same stage. This time, the sunlight was fading over a tight left-hander with a deep ditch on the inside, a dramatic spot where drivers often dropped a wheel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Endurance Championship \/ Britcar Trophy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This year, the Britcar Championship evolved into the British Endurance Championship, featuring GT3, GT4 and TCR machinery. The Trophy category ran alongside, showcasing slower but equally entertaining classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At many rounds, I focused primarily on capturing video content for teams alongside Lewis Thomas Media, though I also found time to photograph the events whenever possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British GT, Brands Hatch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Midway through the season, I was offered a Canon 500mm f\/4.5L at a price I couldn\u2019t refuse. My first outing with it was the British GT round at Brands Hatch, where I put it through its paces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although it\u2019s over 30 years old and has its quirks, it performs exceptionally well for the cost, providing the extra reach I sometimes need on track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

P9 Challenge, Red Bull Ring<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One event I hadn\u2019t planned to attend, but couldn\u2019t turn down, was the P9 Challenge at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. I packed the car, added two friends, and set off on a 20-hour drive each way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trip itself was unforgettable, driving through four countries, staying in the mountains, and experiencing the circuit and event. The atmosphere, location, and racing made the journey worthwhile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the on-track highlights were impressive machines including a Pagani Zonda and several recent Formula 1 cars competing in the BOSS GP series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NLS7, Nuburgring<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In October, I finally returned to the N\u00fcrburgring for Round 7 of the N\u00fcrburgring Langstrecken Series. All of these images were captured from spectator areas around the Nordschleife, making the most of the incredible access available to fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spa Six Hours<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A quick trip to Belgium for the Spa Six Hours delivered a full day of classic motorsport spanning multiple eras. The event culminated in a six-hour endurance race for mid-to-late 1960s machinery, featuring iconic cars such as GT40s, E-Types, Cobras and Mustangs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japfest & Trax<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Two drift events I covered this year were Drift Matsuri demonstrations at Japfest and Trax. Drivers aimed for 100mph entries before navigating the fast Brooklands and Luffield sections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These events are always enjoyable to photograph, relaxed atmosphere, no competitive pressure, and plenty of opportunity for creative shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teesside Autodrome<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It was another busy year at Teesside Autodrome, covering 14 events. The variety of motorsport disciplines there continues to make it one of my favourite venues to work at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slidehouse RC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A slightly different challenge came in the form of three events for Slidehouse RC drifting, two open days at their track and a demonstration at Goodwood during a Breakfast Club meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RC drifting is incredibly fast-paced, with cars changing direction rapidly. Capturing the action often requires getting very low to the ground to find the best angles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freetech Endurance Championship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An unexpected opportunity led me to photograph four rounds of the Freetech Endurance Championship, covering both riders and teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was a fast-paced challenge, requiring quick reactions to capture multiple bikes over short periods of track time. Between sessions, I also shot pit lane and promotional imagery for the championship. It was demanding but extremely rewarding, surrounded by passionate people throughout the paddock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other Events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

also attended several additional events, including my annual trip to Anglesey for Drift Matsuri, a GT Cup test day at Donington Park, and a test day at Snetterton. These images round out the final collection from 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
